Just Say No - Josh Provan

There are lots of temptations in this world, duh! And this is just a little page worth of what will hopefully turn out to be helpful hints to keeping on the straight and narrow.

The thing that is so illogical to me is the fact that we know what is right and wrong, the minute Eve took that bite out of that apple the human race has been able to understand what is moral and immoral, just and unjust, evil and good. With that knowledge in mind when we are tempted by something we should either be able to say in an instant NO, or for those less strong in God, think it through and come to the conclusion that it is wrong and again say NO. But it does not always work that way, there are probably about three or four main reasons for this.

One is simply the fact that the person wants to do bad, this is a sad fact but the term 'only human' means that we are all base on some level, unless of course we are saved by salvation. So, although calling themselves Christians, they want to do the things that are wrong and justify them by the fact that they use the name Christ Like, the answer to this is to think it through by saying very clearly in your mind "Would God be OK with this" and don't take half truths or technicalities to be an excuse, if you cant find a reason to do it DON'T!

Two is pressure of the crowd, I talked about this in my faith article, because of all the pressure of the world and those around us doing particular things, we then feel insufficient in their apparently superior gaze, and so to be able to fit in we are almost forced to do things we would not normally do. The answer to this is to only set yourself up to think that God is the only opinion to worry about! And copy other people.

The third is the simple human desire to have something that is wrong and as such off limits; stuff like pirated dvd's, and shared files, watching violent things on TV and listening to unhelpful and violent things. This is combated by the knowledge that again God is watching you and He takes a dim view of supporting organized crime, taking in things that he never wished you to see and hearing things that he never wanted you to hear. There is a very good lesson to learned from the 'see no evil hear no evil speak no evil' line!

As an example I am going to use the children of Israel: In Egypt they were more than second class citizens, they were scum, something to be trodden down and beaten, slaves under cruel masters who felt threatened by their prosperity. They asked God for help and he helped, he gave the Egyptians what for! And He let Moses lead them out, laden down with lots of good stuff,

Now they at this point were really happy that God had saved them, but the minute that things went bad they said, “God is no longer with us, he abandoned us, and we are gonna die here in this stinking desert”, “Let me die back in Egypt”, to paraphrase. So, they gave into temptation, looked to other god's for help, and were sentenced to 40 years in the wilderness. In the end, only Gods faithful friend Moses, climbed up that mountain to see the land that they had so cruelly deprived him of, the rest died without truly knowing what they had missed.

Don't ever let the temporary human desires blind you from what a little hard work and fortitude can bring you.

So again just trust in God, and, yup, SAY NO!
