Reminiscences of John Allray

August 1823

Throughout a particularly long life a man who has reached the station of that renowned hero of the late war with France: Rear Admiral Sir John Allray, will from time to time look back upon certain things that has brought him so far, from when first we heard his name during the affair off Gibraltar at the start of the troubles in 93’ to his crowning glory during the chase for Bonaparte after the Battle of Waterloo his exploits are now synonymous with the Navy that he has served his whole life and so it seems only logical that such a man as Admiral “Steely” John Allray should eventually publish his memoirs. Knowing this he naturally engaged the Times to publish in appropriate installments a story of his life in its rawest sense.

War is a curse upon humanity.

For so long as there are evil men on the earth – driven by greed, power and self interest – and so long as there are the honest God fearing men to oppose them, there will be disagreement and war.
